Hikari Leilani Miya is a queer, disabled Japanese-Filipina American. She holds a BA in English from Cornell University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of San Francisco. She attends Florida State University’s PhD program in Creative Writing studying animals, the nonhuman, and ecology. Her poems have been published or are forthcoming in Sonora Review, Chestnut Review, Broadkill Review, Cobra Milk, and others. Her first book of poems, Do Not Feed the Animal, is published with Cornerstone Press. She currently lives in Tallahassee with her snakes, Asian forest scorpion, leopard gecko, and disabled cat. She volunteers at the Tallahassee Museum specializing in reptile care and handling.
